Can Comfortable Shoes Be Stylish?

Comfortable shoes used to mean those that you wouldn't wish to be seen wearing, but times have changed. Despite our obsession with fashion trends, more people are taking an interest in comfort.

Why should this be? Maybe it's because we're fed up of wearing shoes that are simply too painful. None of us like struggling to walk because our feet are covered in blisters. We might try and avoid such problems by trying shoes on before buying them, but the reality is often that the full horror of foot pain doesn't become evident until after a few days.

So all of this means that plenty of people are now shunning designer footwear. Why should we wear shoes that are stylish and funky if they cause us so much pain? What we really need are shoes that ensure that we can look fashionable and that will also allow us to walk in comfort.

Are footwear designers on the same wavelength? Not always, but there has clearly been a move to provide more options when it comes to comfortable shoes. That's why fly flots and Cosy Feet have been successful in selling more shoes.

We want to buy shoes that do offer the right levels of comfort and we're sending out a message to manufacturers and designers: if we can't find what we want in high street shoe stores then we're prepared to look online.

If UK manufacturers don't make shoes of the right quality then we always have the option to buy footwear that was designed and made elsewhere - we can pick up shoes from Italy, Scandinavia and the United States.

We needn't put up with shoes that aren't comfortable enough. There are plenty of comfortable options and many of them are extremely stylish too.
